Closets, Colds & Cranky Endings!

I will admit it, I am a scaredy pants! Often!! I don't like bugs, especially in my house! I can't stand to be alone in an empty house. I am NOT a fan of thunder, lightening and especially tornadoes! Last night we had tornadoes in the area, according to the Doppler radar at our local news station a rotation literally passed right over our house, my husband was at work and my daughter went to a concert with the neighbors...it was just me and my 2-year-old son, alone in the house, in the midst of a tornado warning, huddling in the closet under the stairs for the better part of an hour. I'm guessing that besides being bad for my nerves it was probably not great to be closed in such a small area with germs flying from our colds we've been tossing around this week and all the over-stimulation made for a very cranky day today!

Lessons learned? Many!

1} While my boy was a trooper hiding in the closet from the almost tornado it would have been easier to keep him, um, distracted if we had some books or small toys and a flashlight in there. Need to add these before next tornado warning occurs!
2} It's ok to admit I'm scared! It helps my kids know that it is something that happens but it is more importantly an opportunity to show them how we should act when facing our fears. Last night my little one told me, "Momma, I scared." I hugged him tight and assured him, "I know sweetie, but Momma's got you and God's got us both!" Life lessons are all around us, are we taking advantage or are we taking a road around them?
3} The day after an exciting day (scary exciting or happy exciting) should be approached with much patience - especially if you have kids because they will inevitably be a bit on the cranky side.
4} Never miss an opportunity to say, "I love you," "I'm sorry," or "I forgive you," because you never know if it may be your last chance.
5} Don't stop looking for life's lessons, when we stop learning is when we stop living.

God knows that I have a long way to go before I'M not cranky after a long, exciting day and I pray He'll keep helping me to see the lessons He's putting out in front of me to learn each day. What have you learned today? What might we all learn tomorrow? No matter where your weekend takes you I pray that you don't need to be stuck in a closet praying for safety, that you won't fight or catch a cold and that no one in your vicinity - including you - fits the description of cranky...but if that's not in the plans then I hope you choose to find some good lessons in the process!
